05 Apr 2017 Girl Talk: Part II
Last month, we dedicated words to some of the talented boss babes coming to SunFest, but there are more fierce women to be heard. Today we offer a second preview of the incredible women coming to South Florida this May.
If you drop the name Lillie Mae into Google you’ll find yourself overwhelmed with news results. Rolling Stone magazine loves her, as does Entertainment Weekly and every Nashville outlet. Just last week she performed on Conan, debuting two new songs. New to this Americana artist? Here’s what you need to know:
Lillie Mae is a 26 years young singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist– best known for her vocals, and skills on fiddle and mandolin. She kicked off her career as a child with Jypsi, a four-piece band with her sisters, Amber-Dawn and Scarlett, and brother, Frank. Their country rock caught the attention of Cowboy Jack Clement, an iconic record producer, singer, and songwriter. (Take some time to read up on Cowboy Jack. He’s penned songs for legends like Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, and Jerry Lee Lewis.) Lillie Mae remained close to Clement until his passing in 2013, and credits his influence to much of her career.
In 2012, Lillie Mae met Jack White, and joined his live/studio band the Peacocks. The two are described as fast friends. Lillie Mae signed to White’s Third Man Records, and last week (April 14) released her sophomore album, Forever and Then Some.
A lot of very important artists and producers have had their ears on Lillie Mae for years, but now it’s your turn, South Florida. This young, veteran artist will bring her incredible voice, talents, and style to the Tire Kingdom Stage on Thursday, May 4. Do not miss her.
Florida native Leilani Wolfgramm will also show her prowess this May, bringing her island blend of reggae, hip-hop, and R&B to our South Florida stage. Wolfgramm picked up her first guitar around 14 years old and cut her teeth playing and singing alongside her brothers in the reggae band Hor!zon. Her debut solo album, Rebel, was released in August 2014.
Wolfgramm has toured with Fortunate Youth and the Supervillians and has shared the stage with acts such as Ballyhoo, Dirty Heads, Tribal Seeds, Sublime ft. Rome, New Kingston and The Movement.
You can catch her beach-flavored sounds on Friday, May 5, on the Tire Kingdom Stage.
Spikes, studs, and black lipstick have never looked so good, thanks to our next music maven.
Manhattan’s Natalie Ann Cohen is better known by friends, family, and fans as Madame Mayhem. This raven-haired artist is a classically trained singer who specializes in metal.
“It’s been my passion for my entire life,” she told BraveWorlds.com. “That’s who I am. I love singing and performing.”
Mayhem has performed across the nation, on TV, and in international waters. She previously headlined VH1’s “That Metal Show” annual Christmas Party, and in January, she took fans to the Turks & Caicos Islands aboard Shiprocked Cruise.
What can you expect to see on the Jetblue Stage come May? An unforgettable performance and the latest songs off her recent album, Now You Know.
There are more women to showcase before SunFest! Check back for Part III in our Girl Talk series soon.
