03 May “Hats Off” to Schoolboy Q
“How many of you got my CD last year,” asked Schoolboy Q to a crowd of about 2,000 on Saturday night. “Now, how many of you bootlegged it?” the audience laughs and cheers in approval.
The 28-year-old rapper stood on the edge of the stage in a turquoise t-shirt, black pants and a wearing a large tan hat.

Yeah, the hat impressed everyone until it flew off for a second. “Shoutout to my dumb-ass hat for revealing my f—d up hairline right now,” Q said.
The rapper performed songs like “Hands On The Wheel,” and “What They Want.”
Q took his May 2, 9:00 p.m. performance as an opportunity to test out how many real fans were in attendance. “Where the real Schoolboy Q fans in this place tonight?” he said. “Let’s test y’all out.”
After performing a clip of his song “Bet I Got Some Weed,” and a snippet of “Druggies Wit Hoes Again” — just enough to let the fans fill in the blanks — Q went on to exclaim “Aye, we’ve got some fans in here.”
The die-hard fans were on cloud nine, showing off to Q, striving to prove to him that they were his number one fans.
The music led into the 2014 hit, “Collard Greens” which features another popular rapper and label partner, Kendrick Lamar. Girls and guys alike sat on shoulders to get a better vantage point, raising their hands in the air and singing word for word.
“Is this still the place to be tonight?” asked Q. “You could be anywhere right now, especially watching the fight. You chose to be here. Let’s enjoy the breeze. I’m trying to have a hell of a night.”
The hour progressed, with Q performing the Tinashe hit “2 On” that features Q.
The night is dark and breezy, with a full moon peeking through thin clouds.
“If you’ve got a light or if your phone is still alive, I need you to help light this b—h up,” Q told the crowd. The crowd complied happily. “My life has been good. I’ve been at the lowest point of my life sleeping on couches, and now I’m on this stage in front of you.”
Q continued to preach to the crowd that we’re all blessed as he broke into his 2012 track, “Blessed.”
Before performing his last two songs, Q told his fans they’d have to gear up.
“Losing your hat like me for instance,” said Q. “Giving your girl to me by accident.” The rapper laughed at his own joke and quickly through in a “just kidding” before closing with the 2014 single, “Man of the Year.”
“West Palm Beach, man, I love y’all. That was hella fun. I cannot wait to come back.”
