Jon Bellion: The Hitmaker

A few years ago, Jon Bellion was writing songs for other musicians. He co-wrote Eminem and Rihanna’s “The Monster” and wrote and produced (former SunFest performer) Jason Derulo’s “Trumpets.”

That all changed when he decided to take center spotlight. Bellion’s single “All Time Low” starts off with just vocals. It’s vulnerable, infectious, and honest. Bellion wrote it just coming off a breakup. The intro reminds me of Owl City with his melodic, story-telling vocals.

And then, the beat drops.

What starts off as this acapella project soon morphs into this larger than life pop song. “All Time Low” not only charted in the U.S., it also peaked within the Top 20 in Australia, Belgium, Austria, Denmark, Lebanon, Sweden and more.

The most impressive part? This ‘song of the summer’ took over the charts and airwaves with a chorus that only has one word: low.

That’s right, even if you’ve never heard the song before (doubtful), I just taught you how to sing along. Yet, without having to string together any sort of complicated poetry, Bellion made a massive hit.

Turns out, it’s one of many.

The 26-year-old singer and rapper originally made his way into our ears in 2015 when he sang on Zedd’s “Beautiful Now.”

Bellion’s debut album, The Human Condition, dropped last year and features “All Time Low,” along with newer singles like “Guillotine.”

“Guillotine” is a likable pop tune, reeling you in with a macro closeup — just his vocals. And then, keeping you there with a solid beat and catchy melody.

Obviously, the formula is working for Bellion. The Human Condition snagged a number two spot on the Billboard charts.

“It was satisfying to know that the fanbase is there and ready to help and spread the music,” Bellion said in an interview with The Aquarian. “I think that means the most to me. That’s the most exciting part about any radio single or promo. To have the number two album in the country feels good.”

And like Bellion said, his fan base is ready for him:
