27 Apr Late Pass: Lukas Graham

Alright guys, I’m using my late pass today. It’s bright green and I am waving it vigorously in the air. Apparently, I’m not alone. Today, I Googled Lukas Graham. I saw one of his singles was a song called “7 Years.” I played the song and to my surprise, I already knew it. It was on my local Top 40 radio station yesterday. I heard it for the first time last week on the same station. It’s a really sweet song and I let it play all the way through both times in my car without switching stations — that’s a big deal for me.

The problem? This song came out in September of 2015. This song came out seven months ago and we’re only just learning about it over here. It’s already charted (high, might I add,) in places like Sweden, Australia and Denmark. WE ARE SO LATE, YOU GUYS.

But that’s ok. Because now we can educate ourselves. Lukas Graham is a Danish pop group consisting of drums, keyboard, bass and vocals by the group’s namesake — Lukas Graham Forchhammer — a 27-year-old crooner, who not only sings but acts and does voiceovers in animated films. Fun Fact: Forchhammer voiced Anders, the Danish version of Andy, for the country’s version of Toy Story 2 and 3.

The group, who hail from Copenhagen, released its self titled international debut earlier this month and since, people have been eating it up. This includes SunFest Saturday performer, Trey Libra, who admitted on Twitter to snagging a copy.

My point in all this, SunFesters, is that today will be an opportunity for redemption. You can wave your late pass in the air (or not, maybe you’re perfect and knew about Lukas Graham all along), and try not to cry when Forchhammer sings in his perfectly emotional falsetto about making friends.
