19 Apr Meet the Press: Emily Bloch
Hello, SunFesters! Some of us met last year on this very blog.
Well, it’s good to be back.
My name’s Emily Bloch and I’m a South Floridian born-and-raised music journalist. I’m also a drummer, a college senior at Florida Atlantic University, and just an all around music junkie.
2015 was my first SunFest ever and I’m so excited to attend my second and share the experience with all of you.
I’m about to wrap up a second term as editor-in-chief at my college’s student newspaper, the University Press. It’s been a weird year to say the least. I started as editor right before last year’s SunFest and shortly after it, I was plagiarized by a pro publication. A year later, I’m just getting past a negative reaction to an exposé I wrote, resulting in theft of our newspapers.
With all that said, SunFest is going to serve as a much needed vacation. It’s also a great way to celebrate being done with finals. (Where are my fellow overwhelmed college students? Can I get a hell yeah? Maybe?)
I’m going into this year with a lot more knowledge than last — including how important parking passes are and the value of sunscreen — and I’m excited to help guide you all through it.
For more advice on what to bring, check out our blog post that lays it all out for you. One of the most valuable takeaways I got last year was how many uses a bandana can truly have.
Like our lead blogger, Cassie Morien, I live and breathe music, and I couldn’t box myself into one genre if my life depended on it. That’s what makes SunFest so special. This festival is notorious for being all over the place (in the best possible way) musically, and that’s got to be one of my favorite parts about it.
Last year, I got to experience everything from alternative legends Pixies, to up-and-coming rapper Zeale and pop-punkers, Fall Out Boy.
This year, SunFest is staying true to form with acts ranging from ZZ Top, to the Death Cab for Cutie, to The Roots. Seriously, do yourself a favor and check out the 2016 lineup.
So in case it wasn’t clear, the word of the day is ‘excitement.’ We’re going to have a great time next week and I can’t wait to connect with all of you.
