On Your Radar: Saturday

Happy Saturday, SunFesters! Today is a special day because it marks the start of full days of music. Unlike Wednesday through Friday, where performances began around 6, today’s music will start as early as 12:45. As for who’s performing, you probably already know about some of the bigger acts like O.A.R. and Fitz and The Tantrums. But here are some artists you might not be as familiar with:

The Babys

British 80’s rock group, The Babys are back and say the band is picking up where it left off. The four piece group — who eventually broke off for individual members to pursue work with artists like Journey, Rod Stewart, Bad English and more — was known for its Billboard singles including “Isn’t It Time” and “Every Time I Think of You.” Thirteen years after orignally dismanteling, The Babys returned with a few new members to give its fan base some nostalgic bliss. Now, the group will be doing just that at SunFest.

Bobby Lee Rodgers

Jazz guitarist Bobby Lee Rodgers along with his backing band make up a bluesy jazz-rock fusion that is the Bobby Lee Rodgers Trio. Besides originals, Rodgers and his band play covers of jazz greats such as Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk. Rodgers and his trio also played SunFest back in 2014 to rave reviews. One website, Do West Palm said Rodgers was “an exceptionally fine guitarist and local boy with his killer trio.” But don’t take anyone else’s word for it, see for yourself.

Half Deezy

Tampa based rapper Half Deezy is a success story if you’ve ever read one. Serving in the Army for almost ten years to provide for his daughter (who was born when he was 19), Deezy hung up his uniform to pursue his love for music full time. The rapper, who cites influences like Tupac and Tech N9ne, started performing in the late 90’s and has since released an EP called “Good Day” with songs like “Tonight,” a positive track you can dance to. As for his name, “when something is both dope and easy it’s ‘deezy,’” the rapper’s bio says. “Half Deezy has been in the game long enough to know that in today’s world there’s really nothing in life that’s easy all the time.”
