SunFest begins, Mean Creek takes the stage

We can see clearly now, the rain is gone!

After a soggy start to the week, the wet weather has finally come to a close…and just in time.

It is called SUNFest, after all.

Today the gates will open and our favorite Florida festival will officially begin.

Once inside, grab a funnel cake and a beer, and head to the Bank of America stage. Indie quartet Mean Creek, currently supporting the Counting Crows on tour, will be the first band to seduce your aching ears. And despite the early time slot, they should not be missed.

Chris Keene (vocals/guitar), Aurore Ounjian (vocals/guitar), Erik Wormwood (bass) and Mikey Holland (drums/percussion) began collaborating in Boston back in 2006. Since then, the group has released two albums, four EPs and two singles. A third full-length release, titled “Youth Companion,” is scheduled for release this fall and you can expect to hear these new tracks tonight.

The group has drawn a few Cobain comparisons in glowing reviews, but it is important to note that this rock band’s gritty sound will be appreciated by a wide audience. Their skill of melting together dark, poignant lyrics, heavy guitars, and thoughtful restraint at the climax of a track is certain to translate beautifully to a live set.

Mean Creek will perform from 5:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. tonight on the Bank of America Stage.
