SunFest’s 2015 lineup is full of surprises

The PixiesLineup release days are more important to me than most major holidays. Finding out 50 fantastic bands are playing in your backyard (or in a plane-ride-away-paradise) is always cause for a celebration. You hop on a group text with everyone you know. The working afternoon suddenly becomes much more bearable. Life is good.

Today, life is great.

SunFest is bringing so many stellar musicians and bands to West Palm Beach. My head is spinning from the excitement! Allow me to gush over just a few of my favorites.

Pixies.

Black Francis, Joey Santiago, David Lovering, and Paz Lenchantin will be in South Florida to perform one completely unmissable show.

Only hours ago, the renowned American rock band announced select North American tour dates, and promised to play “some brand new songs, written and arranged just in the past few months,” in addition to their extensive discography. This extremely special SunFest appearance is only being unveiled now.

2014 was a massive year for Pixie fans. The quartet released Indie City, their fifth LP and first new album since 1991. The band also re-issued a three-disc, 25th anniversary special edition of Doolittle, and toured extensively.

This year is going to be even better, with their ready-to-debut songs and South Florida show. The Pixies, ladies and gentleman. The Pixies.

(I hope this beautiful band doesn’t take offense when I sheepishly admit my favorite karaoke clip in the history of movies is Joseph Gordon-Levitt drunkenly singing “Here Comes Your Man” in “500 Days of Summer.” Might help hold you over till April.)

If you’ve flipped on the radio in the past three months, then you have undoubtedly heard Hozier’s ridiculously seductive hit “Take Me To Church” pour through your car speakers. Whether you’re 13 or 103, I’d bet you know every word to the song that has slid to the number two spot of Billboard’s Hot 100.

Well, I have something to tell you SunFesters. Singer, song-writer, musician Andrew Hozier-Byrne has a whole bunch of glorious songs you need to hear. Bring up your favorite streaming site and set your sounds to his Irish pipes. I recommend treating your ears to “From Eden.”

Not a lot of meat is currently scattered on the interwebs about this new, soulful artist, but I’m looking forward to learning more about him over the coming weeks. Fingers crossed for an interview!

One last act that needs to be celebrated right this moment is Eddie Money. I let out a delightful scream of joy when I saw his name on the roster. (I may have scared my neighbors.) Money is long respected as a rock guitarist, saxophonist, and singer. This 80s icon is directly responsible for creating hits like “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me,” “Take Me Home Tonight,” and “Two Tickets to Paradise.”

I have grown up listening to my parents blare his songs around the house. I know every word to his hits, and like to believe that I can reach all the same notes as Ronnie Spector. (I can’t.)

I also love, respect, and adore Money for his sense of humor. (Please tell me you’ve seen his Geico commercial).

I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing any of these acts before, which is why I think I am so crazy excited for this season! I hope you are as thrilled as I am. Let this excitement carry you into the weekend!
