04 May Take 5 with the Living Daylights
Congratulations to South Florida’s Living Daylights (formerly the Scum Dogs), who were crowned winners of the Seminole Casino Rock-n-Roll Shootout. I had a chance to chat with Chris Perez before their appearance tonight at 5:45 p.m. on the Tire Kingdom stage.
You recently changed your name from the Scumdogs to The Living Daylights. Why the change?
We did this because the Scum Dogs was a name picked last minute to have a name for the competition. My dog is actually named Scummy. My guitarist Mike Haddox and I have been playing together since 2005 and have been in many bands, ranging from punk rock to metal and, most recently, blues. That’s why choosing a name was difficult.
Our former bands were Westview, Beauty to the Moon, and Bobby and the Renegades. We chose the Living Daylights after reading a James Bond movie list in Rolling Stone and thinking it had a good ring to it.
How did it feel to win the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek Shootout?
It felt awesome to win the competition this year! There was incredible competition and I feel lucky to have been a part of it.
How would you describe your sound?
I’d say our music is aggressive and soulful. We incorporate elements of funk, blues, pop and metal. We are recording an EP now that will be finished around June/July. Fans can expect so see an honest and energetic rock and roll. They should expect no less.
